Holy Week Yoga: A Journey of Reflection and Renewal

Welcome to our Holy Week Yoga Bible Study! This week, we’ll embark on a journey of spiritual reflection and renewal, intertwining the profound events of Holy Week with the practice of Christian yoga. As we move through each day, we’ll explore Scripture, engage in yoga postures, and deepen our connection with God. Let’s prepare our hearts and minds for this sacred journey.


Day 1: Palm Sunday – Surrendering to God’s Will

Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11

Posture: In yoga, we can embody surrender through postures like Child’s Pose, surrendering our will to God’s perfect plan.


Day 2: Holy Monday – Cleansing the Temple

Scripture: Matthew 21:12-17

Reflection: Today, we reflect on Jesus cleansing the temple. Just as Jesus purified the temple, we can use yoga as a tool for inner cleansing.

Postures: Engage in twists and detoxifying poses, inviting God to cleanse our hearts and minds of anything that hinders our relationship with Him.


Day 3: Holy Tuesday – Teaching in the Temple

Scripture: Matthew 22:34-40

Reflection: Jesus emphasized the greatest commandments: to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves. In yoga, we can cultivate love and compassion for ourselves and others.

Postures: Practice heart-opening poses like Camel Pose, reflecting on God’s boundless love for us.


Day 4: Holy Wednesday – Anointing of Jesus

Scripture: Matthew 26:6-13

Reflection: Today, we reflect on the act of worship displayed by the woman who anointed Jesus with costly perfume. In yoga, we can offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, just as this woman offered her gift.

Day 5: Maundy Thursday – The Last Supper

Reflection: As we remember the Last Supper, let’s reflect on the significance of communion and Jesus’ act of servanthood in washing the disciples’ feet. In yoga, we can cultivate humility and servanthood.

Postures: Practice grounding poses like Mountain Pose, reflecting on Jesus’ example of humility and service.


Day 6: Good Friday – The Crucifixion

Scripture: Matthew 27:27-54

Reflection: Today, we solemnly reflect on Jesus’ crucifixion and sacrifice for our sins. In yoga, we can engage in postures that reflect surrender and release.

Postures: Practice forward folds and surrender poses, meditating on the depth of Jesus’ love and sacrifice for us.


Day 7: Holy Saturday – The Sabbath Rest

Scripture: Matthew 27:57-66

Reflection: On this day of rest, we reflect on the Sabbath and the quiet anticipation of Easter morning.

Postures: In yoga, embrace restorative poses and stillness, allowing God to renew your spirit. Reflect on the hope of resurrection and the promise of new life.


Day 8: Easter Sunday – Resurrection and Renewal

Scripture: Matthew 28:1-10

Reflection: He is risen! Today, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of new life in Him.

Postures: In yoga, engage in uplifting and energizing poses, embodying the joy of Christ’s victory over death. (Mountain, Standing Forward Fold, Camel Pose, Upward-Facing Dog) Reflect on the transformation and renewal found in Christ.
