The upcoming solar eclipse on October 14, 2023, is also a new Moon in Libra. Every energy that is available on a new Moon is available on a solar eclipse except to a greater degree. The Libra solar eclipse brings us motivation and inspiration to change the dynamics of our relationships.
This eclipse and new Moon in Libra is a time to set intentions that prioritize yourself and recognize where you are giving too much of your energy or resources and not receiving the same in return. It’s also a time to decide what you need from others to feel supported, celebrated, and held in your journey.
Where Can You See the Eclipse?
The eclipse will be visible in many areas of North and South America and will follow the same general path as the Great American Total Solar Eclipse in 2017. You may find yourself feeling energies from this time six years ago. People, memories, or situations may arise that provide closure or reprocessing of this time.
This eclipse is also a foreshadowing of the next Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024, which will follow the same trajectory as the Total Solar Eclipse of 2017. Take note of what is occurring in your life during this eclipse, including any projects you are beginning, relationships that are forming, or behaviors you are dissolving. Notice how they shift and change over the next six months, then reflect on this during the solar eclipse in April 2024.
What Time Is the Eclipse on October 14, 2023?
The eclipse lasts for a total of six hours. You can translate the below beginning and end times to your local time zone.
8:03 a.m. PT Partial eclipse begins
9:10 a.m. PTÂ Full eclipse begins
10:59 a.m. PT Maximum eclipse takes place
12:49 p.m. PT Full eclipse ends
1:55 p.m. PT Partial eclipse ends
The energy of the eclipse lasts for about three days. You can set intentions anytime after the intensity of the maximum eclipse passes. You can also revise and rewrite your intentions as needed to refine them. You may find your intuition rapidly brings you information following the eclipse that may shift your thinking. Let your intentions evolve at the same rate you do.
What the Eclipse and New Moon in Libra Means for You
The new Moon in Libra in October 2023 is a time to reevaluate and access our partnerships. It’s a time to decide how we want to show up in our relationships and how we want others to show up for us. It’s also a time to envision healthy, supportive relationships that can honor our soul’s path while we honor others’ paths. It can be challenging to form partnerships where both people’s individual life paths are honored. We need partners who can walk with us while walking their own paths.
We will walk with some for part of our path, then go our separate ways, while others will be with us our whole lives. It’s important to recognize when we have worked our karma out with someone. Not all goodbyes need to be dramatic. Some will just occur because that’s the natural evolution of the relationship.
There is a little fire to this eclipse due to Libra’s planetary ruler, Venus, aspecting Mars. The inner planet Mars brings an energetic charge to this eclipse that will heighten its intensity and inspire passionate changes in your life. This energy may lead to dramatic outbursts or cause you to communicate in a way you may regret later.
Libra teaches you how to center your energy before connecting with others. On this eclipse, make sure you have your tool kit ready to help calm your energy and regulate your emotions before engaging with others. Libra is an air sign. Lean into the air element through your breath. If the intensity of the day starts to overwhelm you and you feel yourself headed into a reactive place, take a moment to center yourself and connect with your breath.
Also, feel the energy of Venus to help you approach all situations from a place of love. First, feel the love you have for yourself. Feel the love you have for your life. Then look at your relationships through the lens of love. Rely on this vibration to help you navigate any shifts or changes you need to make in your relational space. If you need to break away from a relationship, envision this journey with love. How can you most lovingly disconnect from someone? Also, consider how your relationships support the love you have for yourself. If any of your partners cause you to doubt yourself or make you feel like you are not good enough, that may be your first clue that something needs to shift.
When envisioning relationships that do feel supportive, also rely on love. Become aware of what types of actions from others communicate love to you. Then ask yourself if you are open to receiving that love. Also, look at how you can show love for your partners. Consider ways you can communicate love through actions and behaviors.
It’s important, though, to envision relationships that don’t require you to sacrifice what is important to you. Yes, you may need to make some compromises, but your partners need to support your overall mission. Harness the energy of this eclipse to decide what that feels like to you. What makes you feel supported in pursuing your soul’s purpose?
It’s also important to look at how your partners evolve with or without you. You are constantly growing and changing. Some partners will honor this growth and interact consciously with who you are today. Other partners will continually interact with former versions of you. If you are on a path of growth, your partners will need to at least be open to the idea that you may change and the relationship may change. They may also need to support you differently throughout your life, and you have to do the same for them. An open line of communication is the best tool any partners have when navigating periods of growth and change.
Remember that your shadows and triggers often arise in relationships. Our shadows are a part of the subconscious. They hold unresolved and unprocessed emotions. They are often formed in childhood through interactions with our caregivers. We can hold many repressed emotions and memories in our shadows. When we are in partnerships, those tend to pop up when we least expect it and create issues so we can resolve them.
If you find yourself in similar situations with different people, consider it a clue that your subconscious shadows are creating those relationships so you have the opportunity to resolve the issues once and for all. The only way to do this is to accept them, understand them, and attempt to resolve the underlying emotions.
If you find yourself becoming highly emotional in response to your partner’s actions, you may be uncovering a shadow. The clue is if the emotion doesn’t quite match the situation. It will look like an overreaction, but really, it is your shadow asking for attention. If you find this happening in relationships, give yourself some attention, journal, and get to the root of the emotions.
On the new Moon in Libra, the veil between the subconscious and conscious will be lowered, making your shadows more apparent. You may find yourself more easily triggered at this time. Consider this a good thing. Triggers are an opportunity to process emotions that never received the attention they deserved when they initially occurred.

Your Invitation
Eclipses are an energetic journey of evolution and growth. The intentions we speak on an eclipse carry more energetic weight and have even greater potential for manifestation than on a new Moon. Before we get into this solar eclipse and new Moon in October 2023, take a moment to reflect on the first eclipse season of 2023, which occurred last April and May. It brought us a solar eclipse in Aries on April 19 and a lunar eclipse in Scorpio on May 5. Think back to those periods and ask yourself what you were doing and what you might have been going through in your life. Was anything revealed to you? What changes have occurred?
Eclipse seasons are full of emotionally charged energy. It’s important to remember that they are meant to reveal truths that you may not have seen otherwise. We often learn things about ourselves, the people around us, and situations during an eclipse. These revelations can initially feel shocking and bring about heartbreak, betrayal, and even denial. Ultimately, though, learning the truth is always a good thing. It can help you grow, accept needed changes, and clear blockages preventing your evolution.
Most eclipse seasons will bring us information, but we may need time to process that information. Eclipses are known to bring miracles and spontaneous shifts that change the entire trajectory of our lives. Some changes, though, will evolve over the next six months as you make your way to the next eclipse season. Growth can take time, and it’s important to give yourself that time to let the shifts fully integrate into your energy.
Eclipses also highlight comfort zones and stagnant energy that you need to break through to reach your potential. This is why eclipses can feel intense and overwhelming. The eclipse is an opportunity for you to be the person you say you are. It’s about having the courage to stand in your truth and defend your priorities. It’s about putting yourself first because you know that when you do, everyone around you benefits.
It’s also a time to have uncomfortable conversations instead of swallowing what you need to say. Challenge yourself to have those needed conversations with others that lay the truth out on the table, but do it with compassion, honesty, and gratitude. This is your time to raise your vibration by fighting for the life you know you are meant to live.
As we work with this eclipse, notice if any behaviors are blocking your growth and causing you to stay small out of fear. Then look at where these patterns originate. Ask yourself what work you need to do to start prioritizing your soul’s purpose and happiness and stop overdoing things just to make others happy.
