Inspired to Create: Why do some teachers go the extra mile to open studios or create Yoga Teacher Training Programs?

by Virginia Norman, CYM, Holystic Yoga

Have you ever wondered why your favorite local studio opened in the first place? Or why some teachers prefer online formats and others prefer in-person interactions? What inspires a teacher to create a training program? For this piece, we asked four studio owners for their perspectives on studio ownership and possible Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) creation to give us a peek into the process behind creation. This is a small sample of all the owners and creators, but this group is diverse!

First, here is a little background for each respondent! Kat Seay is the owner/operator of Live Move Be Fitness in Lynchburg, VA. This faith-infused studio offers more than yoga, with a range of classes, including Boot Camp, POP Pilates, and CardioBox, besides yoga classes. This studio is also a non-profit and offers donation-based classes.

Jessica Bayless McCarty owns Prodigy Life, a faith-based studio in Texarkana, AR. This studio offers various classes, including aerial yoga, pilates, barre, and yoga wall. It also has an online store on Facebook (Prodigy Life).

Allie Van Fossen is the creator and owner of a unique online studio called Body Mind Soul Studio. The studio includes a large library of recorded classes, live workshops and classes, and a vibrant online community. Allie has also developed a YTT program.

Johanna Marsan is the studio owner and creator/owner of Veda Lila School of Yoga, located in Inverness, FL. Johanna offers a range of yoga classes throughout the community and a YTT program.
