Psalm 139:14 I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.
The human system is designed to promote health and well-being. Consider the possibility that exists within that truth. Allow this possibility to settle into your being as embodied knowledge, not just head knowledge. Humans are designed to undergo stress and quickly return to homeostasis or a balanced state. Yoga therapy, a salutogenic approach to health, posits that the balanced state is wellness.
John 10:10b I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
The modern world upholds productivity, achievement, and performance as the highest priorities and success markers. It is not difficult to see how these priorities move us out of balance or into a sattvic state. All of this “accomplishment” is not the abundant life spoken of in scripture, leading to illness. Stress is linked to many of the leading causes of death in the United States, such as cancer, coronary heart disease, respiratory disorders, and diabetes.[1],[2] The cumulative effect of stress on the human system is called allostatic load, and the average person is largely unaware of its effect on them.
