They carry our entire weight all the time and we care for them less compared to all the rest of our body parts. Without both our precious feet, our lives would never be the same again – you will never be able to go to places, you will never be able to do the things you like that involve standing, walking and running, you will never be able to strut to that favourite tune nor jump high every time you feel like you have won the lottery. Just like the rest of our body parts, our feet need tender loving care from us. Here are six (6) steps to taking good care of our precious feet:
- Always make sure to wash your feet every day.
They need cleaning the most as they are the closest body part to the ground. Wash them carefully daily as often as you can and whenever the need arises. Use soap and not just water to clean your feet to make sure germs and bacteria are cleared.
- Your feet need pampering too.
Just like how you subject your face to facials, and your hair to hair spa treatments, both your little feet need pampering too. Moisturize your feet with cream to make them all smooth and soft. Go to a massage center once every two weeks or so and have yourself a foot spa. At home, you can place both your feet in a basin filled with bath salts and warm water to relax your feet from a long day of walking, and standing.
- Trim those toenails regularly.
Your toenails are important assets to both your feet. Keep them clean and trimmed at all times. When you do not clean them regularly, bacteria-carrying dirt will seep into those toenails and stay there. Bacteria will cause your feet to itch and swell. To avoid this, make sure your toenails are short or well-groomed daily. Also, it is embarrassing to have someone look at your dirty and unkempt toenails.
- Protect your feet by wearing shoes and socks.
Some people are fond of wearing nothing on their feet when they are just at home or right outside their backyard. To keep your feet from getting hurt, wear shoes and socks everywhere. If you are at home, wear comfy slippers instead of going barefoot. If you are just right outside your backyard, wear slippers as well even if you have a good grass in the area. At the beach, it is safer to wear water or beach shoes or sandals to avoid stepping on random sharp object that might be buried in the sand.
- Choose the appropriate footwear.
There are specialized shoes for various occasions and various types of feet. If you are flat-footed, wear the appropriate shoes made for flat-footed individuals. If you are to go hiking, wear hiking shoes and not just rubber shoes that might tear off while you are on the trek. Similarly, if you are to go to a party where the setup is standing over cocktail tables and roaming around to socialize with people, do not wear very high-heeled shoes as your feet will definitely hurt after an hour or so.
